i guess Lez will be able to help here, i have fitted a Lister petter diesel engine in to my boat ,
can i fit a car alternator to charge up my batteryand feed lighs or do i need regulator etc i think most car alternators have a regulator in side or do they. garry

yes most alternators have the regulators built in.

what u going to be charging and running

Garry as said mate all built in, you will have to ffed the small terminal with an ignition feed via a warning light, ( the 12v excites the alternator and initiates the charging)

LR2 engine..?
or a PH3

the boat is a 18ft grp open hull, Lister petter 10 hp inboard with a seagull silver century outboard 1948 cica
feeding navigation lights and to crank starter, boat use fishing with nets. once again thanks

so you only need a wee alternator

Just get a 12 v lucas jobbie.. easiest to install and wire..

Yeah, get some pics of your boat put up bud ........

and can you loosen the ties a little as my wrists are starting to chafe
