New Shape New Tyres

#1 by oxfordsurveyors , Thu Feb 13, 2014 8:14 pm

Hi

Bridgestone Duellers coming to the end of the line.

Want new tyres, 265/70/17 (appears to be biggest I can have without modification).

Dont do any off roading but want a good all season tyre suitable for wet and snow.

Do about 20000 miles a year, equal mix motorway/country roads/town (including London suburbs)

Was going to buy BFGs but read a few reviews not so good on wet.

Any suggestions?

This is the most obvious answer.......

Great in wet, no road noise and at £109 a corner ( I paid ) hard to justify anything more expensive

P.s. Mine are 265 65 17 112s

Oddly enough I just did a quick search and the Coopers were being mentioned pretty frequently.

Also Hercules (?)

If the BFG were going to be OK for virtually 100% road use I would be happy to spend the money.

What's the wear rate like on the Coopers? I've done over 30k miles on my BFGs and reckon there's about another 15-20k left.

Just curious really, is the extra money worthwhile or not?

I had the same dilemma too.

I considered the bfg's....but the wet handling & road noise reviews put me off.

Yep, if my bfg's ever wear out (thats 15k still good as new) I will go coopers, but I fear the bfg's will outlast me on this vehicle

I've only done 4 - 5000 on them so far.
Still look like new.
No sign of wear on the edge NSF either.

Go 265/70 17 mate, fit beautifully.

As to wet performance? Anything will be better than the duellers, just choose from the suggestions on here, pros and cons for all of them.

I may be wrong, but I think the 245's are only available as 107's which is the wrong load rating for these trucks. Needs to be 111 and above to keep them legal.

Am I talking sh1te?

Im really not understanding this bfg road noise and bad handling when wet...i have never ever had an issue with bfg tires and they last forever..

I'm not so sure i would get the same again, but thats due to cost and no other reason..

That's impressive wet & noise stats for stt.

I've lost about 2.5 mpg going up from 245 duelers to these 265's
