Locking it self

#1 by Danmak , Mon Jun 30, 2014 10:30 am

Hi guys

Got a 4life classic
When I unlock it I have to wiggle the key around then once it unlocks it locks it's self then unlocks about 5/6 times and it can just randomly lock it's self when driving down the road,
Just wonderd if anyone has had this problem and knows what it is?
Thanks

I had the exact same thing on my 2001 animal and it was the drivers door solenoid that was fcuked, unfortunately it comes as a sealed part of the door lock mechanism, so you'll need the whole thing off a breaker or forgo your holiday and buy one from the dealer

are you sure it cannot be busted open?
I have one go on my passat after major surgery I found a cracked solder joint I presume this is from the constant opening and slaming shut of the door.
a wee solder and it was as good as new

The mechanism is not serviceable its a sealed unit no screws to open the plastic casing etc and you cannot buy the solenoid separate, the plastic holds the mechanism together so you would have to cut it open with a Dremel type thing but I very much doubt that you'll get it open without destroying it, and after all that where's the replacement part coming from as they are not sold separate??

If you put enough time and effort into it and your able to source a similar solenoid from something else then I suppose anything is posible, but I got a complete mechanism from a breakers for £20 so its not worth the effort.
