overlander

#1 by ebony266 , Fri Jan 13, 2012 6:06 pm

As I want to use my L200 as a over lander (more than a off road 4x4)
I was wondering what mods you would suggest ?
having read Colin s post on Iceland i understand his mod's were few ,

I would suggest a/t tyres, a long range fuel tank, 2 inch body lift, possibly a sun visor (unless your staying in the uk) and battery / pto socket in the tub, roof tent on full rack - there`s bound to be others

At least 2 spare wheels/tyres, long range fuel tank, plenty good quality recovery equipment, roof tent, normal tent, 2 batteries and a split charge system, power inverter, a good storage box/boxes for food, clothing, bits and pieces.

I can't remember what I posted on the Iceland thread, but in simple terms - keep it simple. Less things to go wrong.

I found the biggest issue was speed and convienence. When travelling you can't be arsed spending time making and breaking camp. That's when roof tents come into their own. A proper 30 second erection (ooo-er missus) and all the bedding lives inside.

I also has everything in marked boxes. So what ever I needed whether it be food or clothes, I would pull out that box. Again it's a speed thing, just really handy.

And my Engel fridge, cold drinks and fresh food.... as much as the initial purchase cost hurt. It was a lifesaver. A days driving in the middle of nowhere then pulling out an ice cold tin. Superb. You just have to watch out for dodgy vegatarians (you know who you are) filling it with dodgy stuff. Roulard or something I think she called it.

Twas Remolade and its magic stuff... makes any inedible offerings yummy

And if buying one ask Colin what size Engel to buy.. it may be that you buy the all singing all dancing one and then find out its too high for your truck

Most important after bog roll is baby wipes... NEVER EVER go anywhere without them...

Kev my lovely, I have an Engel (correct size for a pickup) and a roof tent you can borrow.. I'll also lend you the roof bars its set up to attach to. It's an EZI Awn...1400 series 3 slightly heavier than the cheaper ones because its made of tough canvas. Quieter than the other types in windy environments

Errol .. 05 Warrior he's black he's big and has 4 wheels.... but is currently very cold... like dead cold
The Witch .. 61 XJ6 she's black she's sexy and has 2 wheels and lives in a garage
Owned by Humphrey and Bogart probably the most beautiful camels in the world..
