Putting a new radio in

#1 by LeicesterDave , Mon Jul 07, 2014 6:46 pm

Hi, I'm sure this is a very simple procedure once you know what you're doing, a youtube video showing how it's done would be ideal, but I couldn't find one, so I'd very much appreciate some help. It's going to the mechanic in a couple of days so I may just ask him to fit it if he has time, but to save money I'd prefer to do it myself.

It's an old 2001 L200.

Just to clarify I'm stuck as I can't get the trim around the radio to come off. I'm assuming it's obvious what to do after that.

The trim should just lever off..then you use the radio keys either side of the unit to remove it from the cage..its very simple.

yes i managed to get the oblong radio trim off, i meant the trim that incorporates the ash tray, cigarette lighter and cup holder. I thought i needed to get that off as the special keys don't seem to fit in.

I've just had another go and no it won't push from behind and i've now got one of the keys stuck, i watched a video on taking one out of a different car and the keys just slid in clicked and it came out but the radio housing won't allow for that.

Can you post a picture of the head unit? Is it the original stereo. You shouldn't need to remove any trim panels to get the radio out.

It is the original radio. On that other thread it mentioned 4 holes, i can't remember it having them but i'll take a look tomorrow, and if i still can't get it out i'll post up a picture tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

Hi, yes i got it out in the end, i used some kitchen knives and forced it out. Then I put the new one in and it didn't work, apparently there's a broken wire beyond the fuse so i've wired the red and yellow wires together which has got it going for now but it doesn't switch off when you switch the ignition off, a minor problem, And it might explain a bit of why the old radio had so many faults, it kept switching off and it turned off when the ignition went on and stayed on when it went off. It also had a broken cd player and no mp3 inlet so i wanted to replace it anyway. Anyway, good to have a working radio, thanks everyone for the advice.
