#1 by EasyManHugo ( Guest ) , Thu Oct 16, 2014 7:16 pm

Just Bought a L200 4life Double Cab

Just noticed that the head gasket has gone. How do I tell if the engine is stage 1 2 or 3. Also any tips for doin the gasket would be appreciated.

Many Thanks

Stage 1,2 or 3? These engines never came with upgrade kits like subarus if that's what you mean.

The head is real easy to change, if you upgrade(free!) there is loads of info on how to do it.

Are you sure it is the head gasket?

Thanks for the reply.

I am new to L200 and mitsubishi motors and waiting for my activation details. Old Mercs are my daily drivers as they are bullet proof.

Vehicle is L200 double cab(2000 w) which I have only owned for a few days....

Engine is earlier 4d54 non ecu type.

I thinks its the head gasket because it loosing water and the expansion tank is boiling with gas and water is black.

I don't think I have an EGR cooler so have discounted that.

The query about the engines was badly worded. I meant step 12 or 3

I now know that the step 3 engine is the later type 4d54 and has 3 different thicknesses of head gasket depending on piston travel.

I don't think this applies to the earlier engines....phew.

Pleased to hear that its a straight forward job....thanks

Will upgrade ASAP

Many Thanks
