Problems problems and more problems

#1 by az_tdi , Fri Nov 07, 2014 6:24 pm

hello folks been a while since ive been on here but unfortunately ive had many problems with my l200 Trojan ive been told it either needs a gearbox rebuild and all bearings replaced or a second hand gearbox, it has now started to overheat it went through some water and I topped it back up was a coppery red metallic colour and then has started to boil when uphill or in traffic. the blowers are also blowing cold but ive been told it is more than likely a blocked radiator. So Monday its going in to get the radiator pressure tested and a full coolant flush and thermostat replacement also. Any my other concern is what im writing for which is the speedo cable I was told by a Mitsubishi specialist that the gearbox end for the speedo cable fitting is worn down and is part of the gearbox however a hunt on fleebay is a gearbox sensor for the speedo which is a plastic part which has a plug end and a end for speedo. Is this the part that I need for my gearbox to make my speedo work. If anybody can help me out there It would be massively appreciated

unfortunately the head gasket and maybe the head may be duff if it has cooked as extreme heat can warp the head. I wouldn't worry about the speedo just yet till you find the outcome at the garage.

Well the worst has been confirmed headgasket has blew and cracked cylinder head in three places, thermostat has knackered up and radiator is blocked, so ive been quoted by the gc autos mitsubishi who look after the truck around 700-800 which includes new belt kits and pulleys and tensioners, full rad flush. New head and the valves and so on changed over from old one, new headgasket kit and so on.

Well, that sucks.

But... if you can get away with a £700 fixed price, then that's actually not so bad. Most people who suffer from this end up shelling out close to £2k for a whole new engine, including fitting.
I'd definitely be pushing the dealer for some kind of fixed price / guaranteed fix. £700 is not what anyone wants to be paying but, compared to the alternative, it seems like a bargain.

Absolute worst case is spending £700 which doesn't fix it, then £2k on a new engine

Yep, as skotl says that sounds cheap...I paid £600 for a built head for the first truck, plus fitting.....

That's why I wouldn't buy one that didn't have proof of coolant changes as per Mitsis advice. It was the 4th one I looked at before I finally found one with the prized service history and the evidence I sought.

Hope yours gets sorted ok Bro.
