oil explosion

#1 by planetrobbo ( Guest ) , Sun Nov 09, 2014 3:20 pm

Driving along, all good. There was a noise like a kicked puppy, loss of power, oil light on then engine cut out. I pulled over immediately. Upon lifting the bonnet I encountered what can only be described as an oil explosion. I'm currently in a recovery vehicle on my way home. Any ideas what could have caused this? could be a few things bud, but sounds like the engine is goosed. chances are you have lost all oil & the squeeling was the big ends running dry.

The squEaling came before the oil light came on.

I've had the crank pulley replaced and the cam belt done recently. There was a small oil leak. I was taking it back under warranty on Monday to sort it. Would these have had any effect?

It is under a 3 month warranty. From what you say it sounds like a new engine though?

As far as I know it should be covered by warranty. chances are they will just put a 2nd hand engine in it. what did you pay for it ??

I work for BT Fleet & can tell you it would have had a hard life, carried alot of wieght in the back. If it was me I would ask for my money back as you have lost confidence in it & the seller. If they say no then get trading standards involved. Them start again.

just my view bud

I'm a tree surgeon based in Castle Donington just off junction 24 of the M1.

I really like the l200 and wouldn't let this put me off. I'm just unfortunate to land a bit of a lemon i think.

Not sure if we have anyone near Donington. Might be though. Good to hear its not put you off, If you cant get your money back tell the seller they can get an engine from a place called Milners Offroad. They do Jap motor parts at great prices.

I had a similar oil explosion in mine after the aa did some tinkering. Result was goosed crank, bearings and con rod. Ended up getting a new bottom end and rebuilding
