01 won't start after engine swap...

#1 by doski , Wed Nov 19, 2014 7:08 pm

Hey I have a 01 4life that sh!t its motor big style, I have replaced rhe engine with a 99 4work that was running when I removed it. The engine is all hooked up, I have primed the filter and diesel is getting that far and it's getting to the pump but when trying to get diesel to the injectors, nothing's coming through. I have open one of the fuel lines and cranked till the cows come home and still nothing. I have also checked the stop solenoid and it's getting voltage and when 12v is applied is clicking. Can anyone recommend anything to try now??!

Thanks

Doski

Run the engine from a can, feed line and return line into a gallon of fresh fuel, and then try the start up / bleed sequence again... most likely a fuelling problem, have you replaced any of the fuel line clips with jubilee clips..?

Hey thanks for the reply, I have put new jubile clips on all the pipes. I have put fresh fuel into a new filter and it's priming ok and keeping the pressure, just not getting through the pump.

Jubilee clips are NOT good for fuel lines, they will allow air to be drawn in uat the edges of the saddle where the screw thread bit is... two mins and I'll link you to proper fuel line clips, this could be all your problem is..

This is the right clip to use for fuel lines, this supplier is reliable and well priced, and has a very good range of parts, they'll do everything your likely to need for day to day repairs..
if you buy a bag of clips, and use two I'll buy the rest off you, I use these all the time..

Hey after changing the clips and some more reseach it seems that it could be the immobiliser on the pump from stopping it working as the pump came on the new engine and not orginally from this truck. Does anyone have any sugestions as to how to get around this without changing the pumps?

Not sure there was an immobiliser on the 01 trucks..... or the 99s for that matter.

The pump has a fuel cut valve and a fuel cut valve controller when is linked to the immobiliser and cuts the fuel if the immobiliser isn't turned off

Should only have a fuel stop for cutting the engine..can easily prove the point by removing the insides of the stop, if it runs OK then you'll have to stall teh engine as it won't turn off via the key, then just feed the stop solenoid with an ignition fed live that stays live whilst you are cranking the engine...

Good way to stall it is to smother the air intake with something rigid.
