New shape not idling..

#1 by Reid , Tue Dec 09, 2014 8:12 pm

Hi all

I have a 06 new shape with various problems. The main issue is it will not idol, as soon as the accelerator is released it almost stalls, without a jump, possibly a choke would that explain it better?

No faults coming up either, checked fuel filter seems good to me.

While I'm here speedo has stooped working along with odometer and fuel gauge went over sensitive since. It wouldn't be oil level in gearbox by any chance? Stupid question I know.

any help is greatly appreciated. I should stick to bricklaying.

Thanks Paul

Wouldn't really know if it was an egr? How could I tell?

It's a manual though

think Speedo runs of the ABS sensor, usually does but cant remember on these trucks. If the fuel gauge is going funny aswell maybe an instrument fault, bad earth.

as for the idling, sounds like your air flow meter isnt working properly, check for leaks post-air flow meter and if you have diagnostics, check the readings, alternatively unplug the afm and see if it idles.

I know there's a speedo sensor on the gearbox? Is it worth trying?

I just tried unplugging it. for a short period then failed again. I'm concerned.

did it idle though??????? if it died it would be normal as readings are all out, try restarting with it diconected still, however if it idles then thats probably your problem

I haven't got a diagnostic shame really, but a mate tried his yesterday and no codes. How could I check for air leaks?

have a good look, see if you can see any split pipes (the big ones) beside that you would know if the charge pipe was leaking as you would hear it under boost (a big whooshing noise)

i would ask your mate for his scanner and check the AFM readings, you could always take the AFM out and spray it from a distance with electrical cleaner, wait to dry then refit

on a new shape the idle is controlled by the fuel injection and the thorttle valve, no idle control valves IIRC. so the only reason it would die on a common rail (without smoke) is due to an air leak in the intake system. this can also be from the air flow meter confusing things if its bad. try cleaning it or do a live read and replace if neccesary, maybe borrow someones???

Thinking about it, it is an aftermarket sensor. Ran out of money when doing previous works to the truck could this be the problem?

YES YES AND YES! always get a genuine AFM, the aftermarket ........... always break lol

most sensors are ok after market but the AFM needs to be genuine, do you still have the origional?

oh and by genuine i dont mean mitsubishi, i mean Bosch, Continental or whoever makes them for the truck, your local motor factors should give you a price but id shop around, dont use ebay as the chinese are faking genuine ones now days!

I may have it I tried cleaning it before and failed. Have to have a dig around.
Do you think I should order a speedo sensor also?

if theres one on the box just check the cables to the sensor arnt broken, then yes get a sensor, your ODO wont go up as speed = distance....

try the afm but id always do diagnostic live reading first! only main dealers guess!
