It was the joint where the relay contact bolt comes out the relay, there is some plasticy (real word ) insulation. It seemed like the relay was stuck on and i have just taken it apart and that does seem a possibility as the inside of the relay is rusted to buggery ! The relay was brand new so a bit miffed that it is full of corrosion.

Could have been an old new relay.

cleaned everything and tested everything and stared at everything with a concerned look on my face and then decided to put a new feed from glow fuse and a new feed from the relay to heater rail.

It's on and starting ! I tested everything and i have 11.3 v at the rail when i turn the ignition on and this rises to 14.4 when it is ticking over until it is warm enough and then drops to nowt !

The only thing that slightly concerned me was that it went up to 14.4 volts after it started, is it meant to rise so much ?

14.4Vdc is the alternators output voltage, so yes it should rise to that

yes it rises to the out put of the alternator mate so 14.4V is great

Well hopefully after 11 month and about 100 hours work and somewhere in the region of £1500 spent on it i can finally just get in it and drive it !

I won't hold my breath but it would be nice to spend a tad more time using it than fixing it......
