99 problems and me truck is one

#1 by dazmanf , Wed Jan 28, 2015 5:37 pm

Starting to stress here, noticed that when the truck is idle for a while and I start it I have to pump the accelerator till it properly catches.
Today I've noticed it idling around 500rpn, think that's low and it's blowing out a bit more grey smoke from the exhaust than I think necessary when parked.
In any gear when driving and the engines under labour there's vibrations from the engine bay to, not sure if that's maybe engine mounts perished.

Gonna get sniffer test done again for head so looking other things to check

Think it's just a case of belts being worn and it being off timing but not sure yet, haven't had time to get to the garage

It just does. When we had bad snow a few years back my head went. Truck was off the road all the way thru the snow. Just Sod's law.

Sounds fuel related. Maybe an injector problem or air getting in. I'm sure grey smoke is to do with fuel problems rather than air or water. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

be worth changing the fuel filter again Daz. Were getting alot of blocked fuel filters in the work just now. They gel up & block the filter.

Clock a good few miles as it's my daily driver.
When I got it, it was badly neglected and always new the belts would need done for piece of mind, just one thing after another, haven't got round to them.

Had a sniffer test done a few months back and all was find, that's why I was wondering if the timing belt may have slipped and if anyone's experienced similar

Darren, this sounds like reduced fuel delivery (blocked filter or collapsed pipe) or air in the fuel line.
Not too bad to deal with, change your fuel filter, check for corrosion on the metal pipes, check for perished rubber lines, check the fuel line clips (jubilees cause problems), also if you can get an eyeball on it also check the stack pipes on the tank.
If you are looking for cheap bits, can you take advantage of the poor euro and buy a belt kit from south of the border?
