ABS sensor faults can be traced right back to the later D1s, and LR still haven sorted it. All they do is scrimp and save development costs by recycling components from previous models, even through they were crap the first time around d.

As aforementioned, there are decent D3s out there, but they are the exception rather than the rule. Because of the cost of certain maintenance items a helluva lot of them get dumped on the second hand market just as the fault develops, or just as the service/replacement falls due, which makes buying a use One (and they're all used now)a dodgy proposition. After all, if you could afford a grand for a cambelt change you could probably afford to buy a D4 anyway.

Very interesting to read. Been thinking about what to buy next, I thought about a disco3 after going out laning with one. Quite fancy a newer defender as they don't depreciate much, but can't convince myself about landrover reliability. Might have to buy a hilux. But then the d40 navara can run on veg, so that's an option. Maybe even a pram, but I really don't like them

I know I've not had it that long but the bonnet on the disco is up less than either of me L200's.
Get a defender as a toy and keep the l200 for business mate...

The bonnet of my Discos was never down, hence me ending up with an L200. Hell, I've forgotten how to weld!

My l200 is staying put this year, but will be ready for replacement next year. No point having 2, besides the l200 is as capable as a defender anyway. I need something that will tow my 2700kg trailer happily and preferably run veg, but it needs to be newer

NO MORE L200, TIME FOR A MANS VEHICLE!!!!!

Can I just put it out there that in all marques you get good ones and bad ones, look at the L200, we hear of bad ones all the time, yet we know they are plenty of good ones out there too... The same must be said for the D3 surely...you only ever hear of the horror stories.........

Surfer ...have to say my mate did pay a substantial amount for his 56 plate D3 and as I have said it has been very good to them....but I have also seen a 54 plate D3 in for long periods of times at my local garage..........

All marques have their problems, just a case of what you fancy and keep up with the maintenance.
