One for the household lectricians here...

Want to put my immersion on a timer currently just on a fused switch outside the airing cupboard Bild entfernt (keine Rechte) and then through to a covered plate inside the airing cupboardBild entfernt (keine Rechte) . This second photo , the wire in the bottom goes directly to the top of the Immersion.

Was looking at buying one of this Werbung: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Immersion-Heat...=item3f2bb5dd5b ....Would this be a direct replacement for the fused switch , and if so is it something I can do......

Hi mate.
Yeah you could use that one, but it would go in place of the blank plate with the cable coming out of it going to the tank.

Or you could use this one in place of your spur as it is fused & rated for 3kw.

Thank you ...so IF I used the first one then I would need to keep the switched spur, but if I used the one you linked to then that does away with switched spur ...That right?

Take it it's not a complicated job to do, just a case of switching the wires/connectors over?

My preference would be an analogue one, far simpler to use & operate, plus it has an manual override on the front of it.

The electronic ones can be a ball ache to operate and set sometimes.

Ps this one goes in place of the blank plate as well, & you just keep the spur switched obviously.

Yes mate that's correct, straight swap for your spur, should be straight forward as normally immersions are wired seperately so there should only be one red, black & earth (or brown, blue & earth) and then your butal or heat resistant flex out.

Don't forget to isolate at the mains first!

It can depend mate, sometimes I have spent longer programming a Digital one than it took to swap over!

The digital Sw/spur ones are normally not to bad, made by Smiths timegaurd.

If you use an analogue one it will go in place of the blank plate, normally like one of these.

Gonna ask as silly question....why would a digital one be harder to program?

Sometimes you have program each day individually, some have a copy button, which you press to copy the previous day's times.

This is your best bet, 24hr Sw/spur with timer & a good branded item to, think they have a 3 or 5yr guarantee

I'll agree with the hornmiester here Ronny
I've got a simple digital one at my place start time/stop time/twice/continuous and it's a doddle with just 2 buttons and 2 slide switches
when I have to do my mum's one I need a refresher course in the science of rocket motors before I can program it, I have even cable tied the instructions to it cause without them I'm fooked
