help/advice required

#1 by brooker25tdi , Fri Mar 20, 2015 8:13 pm

Hi guys,
Have had an annoying clinking sound coming from front of engine, this evening removed the top timing cover and have found the bolt and cover on the nearside balance shaft has come loose and this seems to be the cause of noise also the balance belt is loose. Would it be possible to retighten the bolt ,cut belt and remove completely and run without balance belt?

If its a classic very likely, there are many running without balance belt, as you will not notice any vibrations until over 3000 revs.........
