Bottom pulley, squealing belts.

#1 by Jon Grimsby , Wed May 20, 2015 8:04 pm

Oh why oh why did I sell my other Animal? (that will be my epitaph).

My 'new' Animal has started squealing from cold, I have checked the belts and they are all tight, no visible wobble on the pulley. (going to borrow some tippex tomorrow)

History: Genuine Pully, washer and bolt bought and fitted November 2012, also all genuine auxillary belts bought and fitted at the same time, I have the receipts.

Looking at old MOT's the truck has done 5000 miles max since this work was done. No reason to doubt any of it as I bought it from a chap I work with's father in law, the chap I work with is a operator at the gas terminal where I work and he is a time served main dealer mechanic.

Question then, can a genuine pulley fail in such a short time and with such low mileage been travelled

Answers on a postcard please.

Have you checked the alternator belt for squeal? , can you take top belt cover off and visibly look at pulley to see if it wobbles?

All I have done up to now is check the tension and all is ok, brand new belts (2 years ago), do I need to take a cover off to check the pulley? I can see it all just looking down where the belts go cant I ?

Am hoping that's all it is, maybe with the low mileage the new belts have hardened, they are tensioned ok though, I wouldn't want to put any more tension on the Alt bearings.
