Parts for classic head gasket change

#1 by Marty03 , Sat Jun 06, 2015 3:06 pm

I have a 53 plate Warrior and the bubbles in the expansion tank didn't stop after I removed the EGR valve and cooler.

I will be doing the head gasket v soon. Just thought I would ask you guys what parts I should get alongside the obvious head gasket?

I thought I would get the cam shaft seals, rocker cover seal and cylinder head bolts from Milners. What else should be done while I'm in there?

I don't think I will be replacing the belts, as I did them about 5k ago.

I will be getting the head tested and new injectors if needed.

water pump might not be a bad shout while you've got the belts off

Unless you have a tension gauge renew the timing belt. They don't like being taken out of tension and If reused there is a formula for re tension a used belt, but I don't remember what it is because a new belt is so cheap its not worth the faff.

100% I don't even think I was £25 for a gates belt, total false economy re tensioning an old belt, have a good look at the crank pulley as well, any signs of rubber perishing I'd change that as well.
I'd save off buying a head gasket though until it's been tested, if it's needing skimmed then how much will determine what gauge of gasket is to be used.

Sound advise fella's.
I did all the belts about 18 months ago. When I was in there I did the water pump and the crank pulley.
I'll renew the cam and balence belts when I have the head off. It's a no brainer!
Where do I get the choice of gasket from? Milners only have 1 in stock with no mention of thickness.
