Ok so I've seen loads of get blanking and decat stuff for the classic shape. But as some of you may know I have a '56 plate 16v whose engine is in about 5007 pieces in the back of my Fourtrak. And I figured whilst it was in bits I might as well take off egr and cooler and get a decat made up. Always do this on my diesels. But can't find relevant info on egr for the new shape. Has it been done with success. What is this resistor mod, and is it necessary. I'd rather just remove every bit of the egr and cooler rather than just fitting a blanking plate between. Does anyone sell decat pipe? Loads for classic on the bay but nothing for the new shape. Any info or places I can buy what I need will be great.

Click here for my write up on the egr prevention for a new shape. Blanking plates don't work as the Ecu still expects the egr to work and gives warning lights when it doesn't.

I'm now on the 3rd version of my resistor mod. I've had it on for about 6 months or so and its still working perfectly with the egr staying closed at all times.

Can that be fitted to fool the Ecu and also take all the other stuff off and blank. Just for tidiness sake? @FoxyChris

You can't take the egr off on a new shape as the Ecu tends to have a nervous breakdown and throw up warning messages. You can follow my guide to make one yourself or send me a PM and I'll post one out to you with fitting instructions. Feel free to bung a few quid to the donations part of this site to help keep it running.

Yeah. I've blanked egr before the cooler and done the de cat thing. No issue so far. Slightly better pickup and nice exhaust sound. Also might want to consider an oil catch can like I did.

If it does get blanked off and throws up a fault can I just get egr deleted or turned off on Ecu? Might force a remap. It's going to be carrying fair bit of weight and towing so could use any extra torque I can get. What's a catch can @marcosuk and where did you get decat pipe from? Thanks

Catch can collects oil vapor before it gets sucked up into the turbo. Get them from eBay. I've posted pics up of my install. Got my de cat off @skotl

I think there are a few remaps that will also stop the egr but not sure which companies offer it.

Went to power flow exhaust place today and they want a massive price for a decat making. Is nobody still stocking them? @skotl isn't a seller of decats. Must have just been a one off.

Decat definitely makes a difference. Also, if you blank egr the decat will allow extra exhaust gases to escape quicker which in turn will keep egt lower.

Had one made in 2.5" stainless. Was £100

A few people have just ripped the guts out of there CAT, it looks standard at MOT time!

Not too bothered about looking standard. It doesn't need a cat to pass :-)

Have had a decat and egr removed on my xsara diesel for last 3 years with no problems. They only check for smoke on MOT. And if that's true then my Fourtrak with rear seats and seatbelts and rear windows removed, and any pick up that's been converted and rear tub removed should fail. Same with spare wheel, can remove it for mot and it won't fail. They check for what's there being in good condition.
