"top up" cover

#1 by jonnyboy54321 , Mon Nov 09, 2015 7:25 pm

Guys
I hhad an Armadillo on the d40, just got in the way and rattled awfully. I considered a cover for my classic but had been scarred by the Armadillo experience, thought hard rigid covers were a compromise too far, and a canopy too restrictive.
I've just had a nice chap collecting his wheels from me in a 2004 Warrior, his had a "top up" cover on it.
I was blown away by it a bit to be honest.
What do we know about them? He reckons he's looked but cant get parts for it (like a key etc).
I loved the concept - could make it work for me and would be far less likely to be chucking tools in the back seat (which currently resembles a shed....).

Thoughts?

Jon
I just read your swap thread.
Why do you say it is impractical for you?
Incidentally, my bars are the same as yours!

Hmmm.
I still really like the concept of the top-up cover, especially with the chrome bars. That said, they'd be rendered useless to me by the fitting of a top (I strap onto them - steps/timber etc). Being able to stand on top of a mountain-top cover would be handy as well (if I bother to get a roofrack/rails of course). But I don't know how easy to whip off in a hurry they are? Canopy is undoubtedly the most space efficient but see my comment about the bars!!

Today was an interesting day, let down by a supplier having two drivers throw a sickie.
This was the result (actually this was the second load, there's one more to go):-

For those of you about to b*llock me - it did have a hi vis and some barrier tape to signify the long load before it went on the road. Was a bit tail happy but was not overweight according to my supplier invoice.

Bit of a reality check.
Perhaps..

RE: "top up" cover

#23 by jonnyboy54321 , Wed Nov 25, 2015 8:42 pm

So I am resurrecting this thread after a bucketload of tools got wet on Friday, and I had a minor theft on site from inside the cab which I'd had to leave open while one of the lads got some tools out

After some pm convo with JonG the top-up is not an option for me albeit the concept took me by surprise.
I am presuming that you can't use a mountain-top cover with bars?
I have bars fitted to mine, not for fashion, but to strap timber/steel/whatever to (see above pic although that was an anomaly).
With that in mind, if I was to bite the bullet and go for a mountain/rollertop, what are my roof options for timber carrying? Could be anything up to 3.6m but 3m more likely.
Seems a right *rse to go down the yard for my trailer for half a dozen bits of wood !!!!!

Thanks guys

if you went for a truckman top then you could use the roof bars on the cab with cross bars on the truckman top rails and carry up to 4.5M no problem.
But that means a completely different look to the truck and no roll bar.
Also the truckman top will give you greater dry storage than a roller shutter or mountain top.

having said that you can use an armadillo roll top with bars, and there are some on ebay at the mo.

Thanks Andy.
I don't have any bars on the cab of mine at the moment.
I think the likelihood of getting a canopy top for mine in the right colour are probably quite slim!
