Coolant issues

Hi again I have forgot my password so can't log in.

On a recent 10 mile drive I noticed the temp gage reaching around the 3/4 mark for the first time ever so I pulled over and checked coolant and noticed the plastic tank was slightly above max level so carried on. The gauge kept fluctuating between half and 3/4 I never thought to check the rad itself but after I did check the rad I had to put about 2 litres into it. When I took off the rad cap after only driving about a mile the header tank bubbled for a while and stopped.

When I've Google it says to run engine with cap off header tank and check for any bubbling so after trying this I got no bubbles. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Hoping it's not a HG job [wail]
