You can't beat the West Higlands loads of spectacular scenery around Oban and Fort William.

We found as with nearly everywhere in the uk, when we went to scotty land it was very difficult finding somewhere that lets dogs in. We had no problems with accommodation, loads to choose from,we had a cottage in invergary, it was well posh. The problems started when visiting, NO DOGS ALLOWED.

If you are anywhere near Stirling the Blair drummond safari and adventure park is a good day out.

It's a real shame because their is loads of great doggy country, it's the places like castles and the likes that don't allow them. I really wanted to do the one that looks out to Skye it was in the film highlander, no dogs and wasn't going to leave a dog in the car.

It really depends on what type of holiday your after, we go camping and caravaning with a fair bit of walking and outdoor pursuits and have taken our basset hounds on holiday up the west coast a few times and didn't encounter much of an issue, as long as their well behaved you'll be fine.
However if you want to do the touristy thing and dine in restaurants and stay in hotels then your going to have a problem, but in that case I'd leave the dogs st home.

Ronnie their are lodges all over up here and many take dogs.I would pick a central base then travel around the area.
If you don't take the dog then head up the A9 Perth,Avemore,Inverness.then up n over to Sandwood bay,Ulapool,Oban,Fort William and Loch Lomond

Wifey and self, and at other times a work mate and self have tin-tented and canvas tented at a site on the banks of Loch Tay (Cruachan Farm, www.cruachanfarm.co.uk ) taken drink and eaten with the locals and always enjoyed it. Toilets and showers good also. Went to the bonfire night last year at Cruachan, ‘kin brilliant, and made very, very, welcome. Good area to explore from. Paid cash, and got some discount …  Took the 4Life over Glen Lyon several late afternoons, and saw loads of Deer running wild. Lots of side roads to drive down and ‘explore’, even though hundreds have already been there! Good walking country also.

Get further up and left coast, to the Bealach na Bà, and call in to the Applecross Inn (good food, good beer) - there’s a camping and motor home site immediately behind (walk to bar in 5 minutes, stagger back in 15). Enjoy a beer outside when the weathers dry and enjoy the view to the Cuillins on Skye at sunset. Breakfast in the café on site is good as well, decent bogs, and showers also.

The drive over the Bealach is superb …. You Tube and other videos confirm … Mozzies only in June normally, but ‘Skin So Soft’ works (better than mozzie repellent).
Wifey and I will be on Harris and Lewis for the Hebcelt Fest again (in June), and with matey, we’re off to the Highlands in November/December again – because we can!

The likes of Islay is a fantastic place to go, due to the birdwatchers it is set up to cater for everyone and their dog. Loads of distillerys to vishhit! Have a few days there, nip over to Ayrshire on the ferry from Campbeltown. Then into D&G and home. Midge repellent is a must, smidge is the best stuff out there at the moment
