Looking at buying this but theres a noise....

Hi guys,

I've recently been approach by a friend of my Dad who's selling his 52 plate L200 Warrior. It's the 2.5 TD with 150,000 miles.

He's asking £1800 for it and I went to take a look at it last night. It's in fairly good nick.

- Needs a new front bumper as its been smashed in.
- Looks like there's a bit of an oil leak, couldnt see where it was coming from but the underside of the subframe cross member was coated in black oil.
- Usual wear and tear on the inside but would probably clean up alright.

My main concern was a knocking / metallic tapping I noticed when I got back from test driving it. When stoof over the engine bay it sound like it was coming from the top but when I went to the side of the car it sounded like it was coming from underneath so I couldnt really work out what it was.

You could hear it from inside the car but it completely dissapeared when I pushed the clutch down. I was thinking clutch release bearing but its usually thats the other way around?

I didnt think to listen to it whilst revving at the time but my main concern was whether it was the bottom end bearings?

Is this a common thing with these? I'd quite like to buy it but I'm worried I'll be buying a car that needs a new engine...

Thanks in advance!

It certainly doesn't sound as if it's in good nick, the rattle your describing defo sounds like a knackered clutch release bearing, very common on these and the noise will go away when the clutch is pressed.

These engines are very soft as shite and 150,000 is a high miler in one of these so if your in any doubt walk away as there are plenty about at that money.

Ah ok. That's odd. Most people I've spoken to say they are reliable work horses?

You arent the first person to say release bearing so it gives me a bit more confidence it's something I can easily fix.

Yeah cheers chef, just trying to get as many peoples opinion as possible so I don't blow £1800 on a sh!tter. Confusing as everyone's opinion seems to be different, haha.

Yeah?

I thought it was cheap? Its a black warrior, leather, most of the options, that hard top which I'd probably sell on. I don't really know much about them but it was convenient and I thought it was cheap compared to what I'd seen on ebay? Smashed in front bumper but I'd try and pick up a new one.

Yeah my old man has a few harleys so it was always going to happen... :)

Diddnt realize it was a warrior and leather guess most that price have cloth interior ect.
Try a cheeky offer can only say no.
When I sell a car or bike I ask about 200 more than I'm happy with and when you tell someone you will drop 100-200 most of the time they are well chuffed and take it thinking they chipped you down like a boss and everyone's happy haha

Yeah it was originally £2000 but then he said £2000.

I haven't seen any on ebay that price. There's some closer to £3000 but they're more like 100,000 miles.

good luck with it bud, just remember that if you buy a truck for a couple of grand with a goosed engine and then have to spend £1800 on a new engine for it, it'll still only be a couple of grand truck
that said it's possible that it could be an easy fix and you'll have got it for a steal
these trucks (as with anything in life) are only worth as much as someone else is prepared to pay
