4wd Gearbox strip

#1 by Karl , Thu May 26, 2016 8:17 pm

Hi. Does anyone out there know where to start when stripping a 4wd 4d56 k74 gearbox. I want to check the bearings etc but not quite sure the order to do things. Obviously I have the g/box off the car n in the bench. Thanks in advance 😊

Do I need to split the box to gain access thru the panel on the top of the box that appears to carry the selector rods?

Not exactly. I removed the bolts from the plate on the top of the box and the selector rods appear to b connected to this plate and they run thru to where the gearshift selects which rod to push/pull. There is a joint in the box at the gear selector end. It's this joint I'm talking about. Hope that makes sense 😳😄

Yes. As in the pic. There's 2 plates there that can be removed. Large one near bell housing n smaller one near the sticks but the larger one of the 2 carries the selector rods n doesn't come off clean so was wondering if I split it either in between the 2 plates or at the joint near the sticks so I can get the larger plate off. 😳
