4x4 flashing green light

#1 by Oldbilly , Tue Jun 07, 2016 4:14 pm

My green light is flashing in 2 wheel drive, the vehicle has had quite few new parts one of them is the 2 vac solenoids for the diff actuator which has had grease and wd40, been round the vac pipes and they are good, after further investigations I found the vac tank had a pin hole in the small metal pipe, cut it off and put a new pipe and hose on and started the engine the light went off, but as soon as I put into 1st and moved off the light came on and is flashing again, if I turn off the ignition and start the engine again the green light is off as soon as move forward again the light comes on flashing again, what I have noticed is an audible click from the front area as the vehicle moves forward as the light comes on, any suggestions appreciate.

I would suggest the click you are hearing is the actuator rod on the front axle as it engages/disengages

Yes I think your right, I did think this myself, so I'm assuming that it could be down to the electronic actuator indent on top of the diff? I'll whip it off and have a look!

worth a try bud
usually the flashing light is showing a problem in the vac system ......... the tricky part is pinpointing where

well, I have now replaced the vac tank, with good s/h one and its still the same, so although the vac pipes look good I will have to inspect them one by one, is the vac for the turbo boost on a separate system?

unplug solenoids, turn ignition on, plug them back in one at a time, each one should click which you should feel as it switches, if no clicky no worky. blue one is a favorite.
dose the light turn solid when you select 4wd ?

yes, although the solenoids are new I'll try the disconnect/connect trick and go from there.

yes! and the vac pipes look good, but I'll give them a closer inspection, if the turbo is on the same vac system, if I had a serious vac leak I would have though that the turbo boost would be non existent?

check the solenoid is switching even though its new it may not be, or check the actuator is free, if you build vaccum you can pull the pipes off the actuator, one will have vac the one with vac squeeze so it still has vac then put it from one side to the other side while watching the rod on the actuator if it moves back and forth its free if it dosent then lube it free it off.
or if you got a vac pump mighty vac you could use that on the pipes to pull it but if not above will do the same.

Fixed!
I have finally had time today to look at the dreaded flashing green light, after another check of vac pipes with a vac tester they are all good, new solenoids already fitted, so decided to swap round the vac pipes on the solenoids and guess what it gone out tested the fwd system and works correctly so a great result.
