Leaky Hardtop

#1 by leerob695 , Thu Apr 12, 2012 11:27 pm

Picked my 2006 new shape L200 up yesterday
Now it started raining here and at the back in the hardtop it is leaking somewhere which is actually wetting thru the liner on the inside of the Hardtop somewhere near the top of the actual bed (Possibly the window seal?) and causing it to drip down to the floor
I asked the dealer to fix a leak before i picked it as there seemed to be water on the actual bed when i did test drive and he assured me he had
Now before i go shouting the odds at him tommorow is this a common thing for the hard top to leak? if so where do they normally leak? and is there an easy fix

Thanks in Avance

it is known for them to leak but since you have just got it let them deal with it & dont settle till its sorted. some of us just seal the windows shut but I dont think you wqnt to do that lol.

I've no intention of taking the cab off and I'd rather it be watertight as such where can I get a new set of seals for around the door as I fear that may be the culprit

I do not recognise it, but you could try the dealer who originally sold the vehicle ( on the numberplates by chance), and ask them if they can shed some light on the maker.

I have just put a loadliner in it this afternoon this is why i wanna solve this "Leak"
It seems to be getting in somwhere and "pooing" on the black bit on the photo ALL the way around so much so that the material is wet thru

only asked that one mate as mine leeks like a leeky thing with leeks. It runs down the sides/front/back of the hard top on mine, then between the top and the bed (as I've not got a rubber/foam etc seal there) and into the load area. I've got my bedrug in at the moment and I just pull it away from the side so the water goes behind it but if you've got the loadliner in then that's not an option sadly

I've got a similar leak on mine and its coming from the O/S/R window seal, on mine its a poor design.

I don't see my hard top ever coming off but I wouldn't be that keen on permenantly bonding it to the tub, there are non setting sealers on the market used by the likes of windscreen fitters for water leaks, or even dum dum putty which you can buy in rolls and are used to seal door cards etc, all of which will do the same job but still allow for the top to be removed with ease

When you come to the rounded edges/corners at the front you can cut little 'v' sections out from the foam to enable it to go round the front corners to get a better finish, if that makes sense!!
