How to mount a winch on a mk2

#1 by RETROL200 , Tue Aug 30, 2016 9:00 pm

I have the classic classic and was wondering how to go about mounting a winch to the front of my truck? The later models all have nice bumpers you can buy that are up to the job but with mine I'm not so sure. I have 2 different bullbars to choose from but am unsure if either would be suitable to mount to as I don't know how much support a winch needs to work and not bend anything. My bullbars mount with 2 big bolts on the end of the chassis and 2 smaller bolts into the front cross member is this all the later ones use also?

Cheers

Ideally a winch wants to be in the same plane as your chassis rails at the front. That way it's pulling the strongest bit all the time. Not fact bud. But just my opinion.

Yeh it makes sense but it would sit really low down if that was the case I was just wondering how it's mounted on the later models so I can get some sort of idea on how big the fittings are and how much support they need to not break anything

Actually after all that and checking mine it does sit bout 4" higher than the rails on mine. So forget my last ramblings. Here a pic of mine so u can gauge the height.

So yeh after all the shit I've been through with the old ones I'm a sucker for punishment so the plan is to build the red and green trucks into one that looks like my old truck in the first pic lol. The first two trucks were a nightmare but now I have a decent chassis and plenty of spares I'm going to build a proper rig and I want a few extras like a winch etc but they don't make anything for these any more even searching the USA and other country's sites so I need to collect info on how to make it happen without it folding the first time I use it haha
