As far as i am aware its not something you add to your diesel tank http://uk.greenchem-adblue.com/?564/what-is-adblue

It's refined pig piss, would you piss in your fuel.
It gets sprayed as a fine mist in the exhaust to make the exhaust particles heavier than air so people in London don't breath it in.

I've got adblue in my works van. It has a separate tank from your diesel tank. Don't mix them.

Adblue goes in its own tank, normally has a blue cap. Now being fitted on vans and cars.
As said earlier up the post it gets sprayed into the exhaust to help soot particles.
Its pig piss so ammonia, very corrosive, my mate spilt it on his boots, it took the leather off in a couple of days.

We had a driver once put a few of gallons of adblu in his fuel tank by mistake. It was dark and blizzard conditions so he picked the wrong pump up at the services. Recovery had to go out and drain it but it still wasn't right so got recovered to our workshop. I had to re drain the tank and purge the entire fuel system to get it to fire. So no I wouldn't put it in the fuel tank. Its not very nice stuff. A Volvo adblu pump seized as it had crystallised in it so had to go back to the dealer for a new pump, exhaust injector and all the ecu coding etc. Cost a fortune as you'd imagine. Will be funny if they go ahead and put adblu on tractors. They'll probably think its an extra fuel tank or something lol.

So if its vaporizing into the exhaust system will it corrode a steel exhaust system quicker?

Maybe the carbon and crap would neutralise the uric acid? Or maybe its not injecting enough to be a problem. I'll be honest ive never really got to involved in it as truck fitters are usually sent on specialist courses before they can go near adblu systems.

I asked the DAF fitter the same question, answer no quicker than normal.

The crystallising is caused when adblue has been run through and is allowed to empty it then dries as a white sugary look. Water will clean it off. An adblue system should where possible always be kept full to avoid this.

My brother is a DAF fitter. The system is only used under certain engine conditions, if these are not met the system is never actually used. It also only takes a small amount of DERV in the adblu to knacker it, it does something to the seals.
