Driving issues

#1 by colmack77 , Tue Jan 10, 2017 2:56 pm

Hi,
Just looking for some feedback, i have had my L200 for just over a month and have noticed that my steering feels very light, i have had to make alot of emergency corrections when driving am im not sure if this is related to it being mostly in rear wheel drive. (this is also my first rear wheel drive)
It feels as if its sliding, i notice this mostly when driving over bumpy, uneven road surfaces or uphill around corners.

I checked the tyre pressure and have increased from 30 psi too 40 psi (max tyre pressure is 50 psi), there is loads of thread left on the tyres.

Its an L200 Diamond Automatic if that make any difference.

Just looking for comments/feedback before i possibly take to a garage to look at it.

Cheers
Colin

I would have thought increasing the tyre pressure is going to make it lighter....as less of the tyre is touching the road.

What make of tyres have you got on it?

Bf Goodrich, all terrain with plenty of thread....i agree with the tyre pressure increase reducing surface contact but i was clutching at straws, didnt want to take any more air out as was already at 30 psi. Problem persists at both tyre pressure

Get your shock absorbers checked or do it yourself by pushing down hard on a front corner and release, the truck should stop any bounce almost instantly. Check for oil loss on the shock and surrounding area.
Check you have no other oil leaks that could contaminate the tyres whilst driving.
Check the track rod ends and also any other ball joints top and bottom.

Is your truck a classic or new shape

Its new shape, i checked the shocks and they are fine,no visible oil leaks.
Im stumped to be honest....just dont want to waste money putting into the garage for something that might be so obvious

Have you got the tub loaded especially anything heavy behind the rear axle.

Sounds like a rear shock problem, just because they are not leaking oil doesn't mean they are work!

I have taken the tyre pressure back down, it was only changed just for a comparison.
When driving i have not had any load.
Regarding the rear shox and rear axle possibly not being secured properly, thats above me and my car knowledge but i have not heard any untoward noises coming from the truck when i have been driving it.....it looks like a trip to the dealership it is then....better get saving!!!

This may be a stupid question, but can the truck be driven in normal conditions in 4 wheel drive all the time?

Also can someone post a picture of the driving recommendations that is on the sticker on the drivers door, mine is unreadable and it would be good to reference.

Cheers
for all the help
Colin

get the camber and wheel alignment checked do not go to a tyre fitting place for this go to a proper garage with laser alignment

you have super select you can run in 4x4 wherever you want and at any speed im sure the diamond has it but you can only use the first 4x4 position on the lever as thats the center diff unlocked.

on the lever should be 2h (normal rear wheel drive) 4h (normal 4x4 drive) 4hlc (4x4 high speed locked centre) and 4llc (4x4 low speed high torque locked centre)
