Interior light

#1 by MitsuSheep , Mon Jan 16, 2017 8:04 am

I've recently purchased an 03 plate L200 4Life. Very pleased with it, despite 28mpg. It only had 70,000 on the clock so I'm hoping to get a few years out of it. But the interior light doesn't come on when opening any of the doors. It does work on the switch, so it can't be a fuse, surely all four of the door switches couldn't be duff? It has spent most of its life close to the sea, and according to the MOT did less than a 1,000 miles in the two years before I got it. Does anyone have any suggestions on where the fault may lie?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Diolch.

there should be 3 positions on the light switch
off,on with doors and on permanently
if it turns on and off but the 3rd position with the doors doesn't work then I reckon it's got to be the mech in the light unit itself
you may find the contacts inside are corroded especially if it's not been used much
my first point of call would be shifting the switch from one side to the other a few times and if that doesn't cure it then taking it apart and cleaning the contacts would be next

Sorry to revive an old thread but I have the same problem. I've taken the light apart and cleaned all the contacts up but that there was really anything wrong with them. Checking the wires going in there is only live working hence why it will work on the 'on' position but not the 'door' position.
Any ideas where the earth lead will come to do I can check?

Interior light switches tend to be earthed at the actual switch on the door pillars , take the actual push switch ( black ) out and clean all contacts and even try and clean the screw hole up a little

Already tried that from the earlier advice. The issue is the earth coming through the connector. The light turns on fine in the on position it just doesn't work in the door position. There must be a break in the site or a connection fault if anyone knows where the wires go to?

Run a temporary Earth to the switch , just to confirm your diagnosis

The permanent live will only be to switch it 'on' manually. There should also be a switched live from the doors circuit and an Earth on the other side of the bulb holder into the loom.
Have a search around to see if there is an interior lights door switch fuse?

TTheres a two wire connector one is a permanent live the other does nothing when tested with a multi meter. The switch unit itself is earthed by one of the fixing screws to the roof.

Great. That's another job on the list for the weekend. Spots to be wired in. Remote central locking. Reverse camera. Steering to be tightened half a turn and now the blooomin interior light. Ah well didn't want to go see the football anyway.

Just been looking at the wiring diagram to get ready for tomorrow. 4.65 in the manual. Not being an electrician can anyone explain how to read the diagram and where I can trace the wires from the light to do I can trace where the problem lies.
