2002 V6 Triton - breaking

#1 by Yoda , Mon May 21, 2012 12:53 pm

2002 V6 Triton import breaking. The engine has done over 200k but is still sweet. If I was in that zone I would rebuild it and you would have a very powerful capable engine should you want to do the V6 swap. Granted I appreciate there may not be much interest in the engine on a mostly diesel forum. Just throwing it out there as an option for someone to do. It has a canopy although at some point has had a less than professional paint job to the canopy - but is rust free. It has leather seats - one small tear - see pics. Most other stuff should just transfer straight over to any diesel classic. I have a good idea on prices for the big stuff like the canopy, wheels, engine, seats etc. But the small things I'm not so sure. So feel free to make offers and if not I'll pose a price and we can work it out somehow. I'm not trying to rip anyone off - this is just the first vehicle I have broken.

Gone so far:
Gearbox (reason for breaking)
Rear seat belts
Wheel arches - being sent off to have 4 inch wide arch extension moulds made up.

Rear canopy

Hi Luke, I like the idea of the leather seats but I've seen what prices they go for and add the price for a courrier and I think they are out of my league sadly. Are they 9inch spots you have on it? if they are 9s are they up for grabs ?
by the way, you should get a good price for the fogs and surrounds as they are like hens teeth to get hold of
cheers Kurt

Thanks Kurt. Yes the spots are up for grabs. I actually don't know that they were ever wired up when dad bought the truck. They've been covered the whole time. I can rig up a battery and check they work then get back to you? Even still would only be new bulbs.

Rear seat belts are off now Mike.

Kurt, the spots have a T shaped bolt that allows it to pivot. They are pretty badly corroded and one has sheared. You can have the spots for postage if you think you can get them mounted.

GB, the roof bars are rail mounts. Apparently they went on the canopy.

The other things people have asked about I will look at tomorrow.

The box ripped itself apart from the inside Basil!! Hence why it's being broken. The engine however is sound. And being a 6G72 is easy to rebuild with off the shelf parts. No limits on horse power available.

Just thinking out the box and a bit wild here......but a 6G72 with hydrogen and a couple of turbos. No need to worry about EGT's as the engine can take it.

Only thing I don't know is whether the 6G72 has the same bolt pattern as our gear box or if you need one of Werbung: these. But they DID do a V6 manual L200 so logic would dictate it was the same box as our trucks. Just needs to be confirmed.

So, with all that in mind I would love to see someone do it and would happily give the engine up for £200. But you would need to put some cash into the project. That said it would be a one off truck!!!!!!

yep lets do some preamble to see what the peripheral works necessary are - I`ve wanted to do a v6 since I first got the old truck - too much of an opportunity - I can do the heads and all the clever dick stuff to sweeten the engine before it goes in - it might take a minute or two from start to do, but x6p`s

Luke, I'll leave the roof bars, if you get a chance can you see what the spare wheel carrier is like, mine is slipping and the the wheel only winds up half way before it jams
