I was thinking that too ????

The Transponder chip is paired to your trucks ECU.
You cant just buy the chips over the counter.

I'm fitting a remote locking kit and want to use the remote keyfob as the ignition key as well? I realise that I'll need to get the chip matched to my coil, and that I'll need to get the keyfob blanks cut. I just need to get a couple of chips (off ebay, probably) and I'll take them down to the local cobbler / keysmith to get them to program them? I understand all the concerns about nicking trucks, but thats not the case. I just want to get the right chip?

oh....if you check my previous post before Xmas, you'l see that I had a drivers door lock that seized, so it's an solution to that problem, even though I've cleaned and replaced the lock.

The average L200 owner wont have a clue as to what Transponder chip is inside the key.
I have had 3 x L200s in 7 years and cannot answer your question.
If my key was faulty i would use the spare and take both keys and the truck, to my local vehicle lock specialist for him to fix it.

Why not ask the local keysmith / cobbler to supply and program what you need.

yep , they have transponders....

a good vehicle lock specialist will be able to do a new one

My main concern is if you have the transponder in the trucker permanently to remote start it , and it gets stolen ...what are the insurance company going to say?

No, I wont have a transponder permanently in the truck. I have a central locking kit that comes with a flip key fob which opens/closes the truck. I want to use this fob as the main (only?) key to enter and start the truck. I can get the blank key recut, thats no biggy, but I need a transponder for the fob. I know I;ll have to get it programmed to my ecu but again, no biggy. I could cut the transponder out of my existing key, but that seems a bit of a waste? Nothing sinister here, I'm not going to clone anyone's truck nor am I going to nick anyones.I think I need a ID46 transponder, just wondered if any of you could confirm?

Yep, could do, but that would mean cutting the key plastic in half to remove the transponder. Seems a bit of a waste when they cost £100 ish from Mitsubishi (matched to my ecu). Anew transponder is £5?
