The ex farm truck do up!

#1 by Wayne_202 , Sun Mar 19, 2017 7:03 pm

Bought this Badboy at the start of the month at a farm sale . 108 thousand miles rough around the edges and no mot but I didn't give a huge amount for it so have a small budget to do it up before it comes too unreasably priced.

Here's some pics (I hope).

First thing was first. Clean the inside it was rough.

The pics don't really show how bad it was and what a difference it is now but it sure is better. Unfortunately it really did smell bad too, I got a smoke bomb style cleaner which has really helped will keep an air freshener in there too.

This weekend I've stripped down the engine to do the timing belt as don't know when it was last done. Found the bottom pulley has delaminated so will change that, top hose my thumb went straight through whilst taking it off so that didnt have long left also the balance belt had snapped so won't put a new one of them on shame as the kit I bought includes one. Have an oil leak in there from what I think is only coming from the rocker cover gasket so ordered one of those.
I'm going to order an oil, air, fuel service kit while I'm at it.

Had a look round it for mot, replaced a tail light and front light that were smashed, all the front steering joints, front pads (2 siezed sliding pins), rear fog light. That's all I can see atm I will grease all my brake pipes to preserve them.

Really enjoy the simplicity of these trucks and easy access to do things.

Feels like I should be buying shares in milner atm but once it's done it's done ey.

That would have been ideal buddy apart from there's only 2 seats. I'm hoping I have got lucky with milner as they had an offer on for 2 free seat covers if you spend over £80 so I'm hoping when my parcel arrives they will be in there. I also found 2 old rubber floor mats in my workshop so hopefully that will hide they dirty carpet. Lol

Haha bit like it I did debate carpeting it then thought to myself what am I thinking. The novelty will soon wear off and it WILL to be full of bottles etc
So many bits I wanna do with it when I have the money and better weather but just smarten it up really wax oil etc. I would like to get some meaty tyres on it and some spotlights too (maybe roof mounted). Mainly just get out and have fun in it, though its my main vehicle so not any hard-core fun that could cause damage.

That a great point. What sort of tires can I put on it as in size without a lift I want some real meaty tires on those wheels.

I will lift it if need be for anything decent looks wise but not that fussed on lifting atm.

265 70 16 is gonna be the maximum size tyre,Maxxis Mudders are a good tyre,if you want serious size tyres you're into the world of lifting.

I think you need wheel arch extensions to fit 265's if you want it road legal.

Will look way cooler without arch extenders though ;)
Maybe a lift would be just a natural progression though. Once the truck all back together and motd il use it for a month or 2 then hopefully finances will allow some more playing about.

Anyway come home to a box of goodies

So thought I would quickly change the pads. Calipers where seized as pistons where rusted rite up. An hour later they are freed up and pads are in. Got too dark and freezing ruddy cold so come in and got the fire going. Mmmm toasty.

Need to make another order with milners tonight for bits I forgot.
