Performance exhaust. What's good for a budget?

#1 by DaleH , Thu Aug 24, 2017 10:43 pm

So of late ive been thinking about replacing my bog standard, slightly rusty, exhaust with a stainless performance one. But I have no idea what's good, what's junk, or how much i'd need to get something that's worth fitting, wile on a budget. Any recomendations would be much appriciated!

Ah right. Trouble is I'd need it shipped to me so I could bolt it on or somewhere local to make and fit 😕

They have a place not terribly far from me. Was that made specifically for you r truck? 250 isn't too bad. It's that with a cat and silencer? Though I'd be tempted to make it Loud Lol

I went to my local 'saveontyres' exhaust place and got them to make a stainless side exit
2 hours later and it cost about 70 quid and sounded lovely
all I had on mine was a decat and side exit , no silencer at all

A 2" body lift or bigger is needed but that's a 3" turbo back with a dummy cat and exits under the drivers door

Wow. Very nice! Bet its loud though? My truck is my daily driver so if its super loud i'd probably get fed up fast. Lol would fit though as I do have a 2" body lift

You arn't going get good performance from a Classic
They are only 113 bhp standard, even with the Animal box fitted you are only looking at an extra 25 bhp.

I had a snorkel, K&N filter, decat and side exit on mine
it went slightly better than standard, sounded a lot fruitier

I did (for about a week) have a K&N Apollo fitted to mine but the noise drove me mad (sounded like a tractor) so switched back to the standard airbox

I always refrained from fitting a chip on mine as I felt that introducing more power to an older engine was just asking for trouble
that, however, is purely my opinion and based on no fact what so ever

Haha. No I know. Never thought it was gonna be super fast or anything. Just want a bit more grunt. I literally just did and egr delete and it seems better already. Doesnt labour at just under 30 in 4th anymore. Guess im easy pleased!

I was looking at chips but talked with my mechanic friend and he said he'd had a few people with bother a couple years down the line after fitting a chip. Could be anything right enough, not he chip, but made me weary non the less

Its luck of the draw mate TBH, some fit a chip and have no issues, some have HGF, or knocking from the bottom end.
Others have no chip fitted and still have engine issues.
Some of it is down to how you drive it, try and keep it below 3K, its an old engine and they don't like high revs.
Keep her serviced regularly, buy good quality oil, i always used genuine filters.
Have you removed your EGR Cooler? that is a good thing to do on Classics.

no, just the egr. Wasn't sure exactly how the cooler came off, so just left it. Plus it was getting dark and starting to rain. Lol

Cooler unbolts then join the water pipes.
Or buy a complete new length from Halfords.
You may need to make a P clip to keep it off the Hot exhaust manifold.
