L200 new engine hard to start when warm

Have an o4 L200 had a new engine put in this spring, by a local garage still not starting properly , doesn't like starting when warm and puts out considerable smoke, doesn't sound to be running right , garage say wait for it not to start then go back, have replaced heater plugs and starter, getting expensive but cant afford to scrap, can anyone help?

re check timing sounds like pump timing out

What kind of garage is it as tjey sound like cowboys to me. My bet is the timing is out. Take it back an tell them to fix it or your going to trading standards.
