Fitting a front wheel bearing. Any hints and tips appreciated!

#1 by DaleH , Wed Oct 25, 2017 12:23 pm

Hi. Gonna put a new bearing in my 05 tonight (if it's delivered this afternoon) as the old one decided it didn't want to live anymore. Having never changed a wheel bearing on my truck before just wanted to know if anyone had some advice! Thanks!

Can't remember the torque setting but they need seating first and it's pretty tight then slacked off and 're tighten to normal operating setting, you may need to make a special tool or similar to gain the correct torque ratings

Well I feel a bit stupid. Wasn't the wheel bearing after all! The bracket holding the abs line had broken and was rubbing off my heel. Plus the dust cover plates have rotted and was touching the break disk on one side.. on the plus side though, I didn't need a new bearing!! Thanks for the help anyway fellas!

at least it's drawn you attention to other bits that need sorting that may have caused serious issues down the line if you hadn't known
