Evening all, new to L200's but been a long time fan, I've not had mine long and already totally smitten! She's an old dinosaur (K74) to some but she's my truck and I love her...I've got big big plans too! 😁

Hi folks.
Just picked up a 2006 Elegance. All looking good so far, although a couple of niggles to work out before it's properly sorted - leaky rear windows and a suspect wiring job for a drop down dvd player.

Bit of a change from my usual vehicle - I'm a 90s Japanese Gran Turismo kid at heart. Had a couple of MR2s, MX5, Mitsu Legnum VR4 and a FD RX7 in the past.

hello mr flyingox

leaking rear windows (and wet carpet) is not unheard of
rear seats out, carpet out
clean out drain channels remove rear windows (usually the 2 small ones that dont go down)
reseal with tigerseal or the like ........ job's a good 'un
worth sitting in the truck while someone holds a hose on the back of the truck just to confirm where the water is getting in first though

Very happy with it, just needs 1 or 2 more lists of modifications to so

Any chance someone could point me in the direction of a "how to" for this? I've had a search online and apparently there are 4 bolts to undo? Except I've got 6 bolts on each window as far as I can tell...?

#12 by mutley2710 , Tue Oct 31, 2017 9:56 pm

evening all,
just bought myself an 54 plate animal with 110,000 on the clock I've up until now been a landy fan after having a disco and defender but an increasing family and dogs decided it was time for something new and always fancied an l200 so thought id start, its pretty tidy for its age just a few issues like interior light doesn't work on the door switches, the dash clock doesn't work and it seems to have a bit of an issue with the turbo opening sometimes but only in second gear ??? i thought possible EGR valve issue ??? any help would be greatly appreciated.
I've got lots of ideas i want to do like the usual big mud tyres, work lights and possible chipping it if thats a good idea ?? and would like to put heavy duty springs on the back as i use it for transporting logs the weekends.
and hello krutly, i am too based in the south west around the Plymouth area.
looking forward to much fun in my l200 !!!

@mutley2710 , the L200 as standard can carry a tonne in the tub on existing springs , but Milners 4x4 do a heavy duty spring, can make the ride harsh when empty though. Interior light , check the door pins.

With your user name you aren't on Mutley plain are you?

mutley&krutly .......... pretty sure that's a cartoon isn't it ?

interior light, clock and usually radio run through the same fuses bud ...... fuse number 1 under the bonnet and fuse number 4 down by the pedals
egr valve is a no brainer , removing the valve and blanking the cooler will prevent it clogging up causing issues
tyres lights and stuff, checking out peoples galleries will give you plenty of ideas , you'll probably find there's all sorts of stuff you had no idea you needed
as ronnie says, heavy duty spring can be harsh when not loaded right up
yours being an animal should already have a chip fitted from factory. However, it's worth checking it's still there as it's not unheard of for people to remove it before they sell their truck on as they fetch a couple of hundred quid on their own. Chip should be a silver box with lots of plugs going into it in the passenger footwell behind the plastic side cover.
Turbo issue could be a vacuum issue as the vac system on these trucks controls all sorts of stuff, does the engine light come on when you've got turbo issues?

RE: 29-10-17 Welcome to 13 new members

#15 by mutley2710 , Wed Nov 01, 2017 10:22 pm

@ronniecabers,i think ill order some new door pins as they're only a few quid and start from there !! and I've looked at milner 4x4 and think maybe the "light work " springs may be a good option as they maybe a bit more comfortable on the road but thank you for the advice. and no not from mutley plain sorry but it could be an option if i plan on moving !!
@krutly, if it isn't already a cartoon then i think we could be onto a winner to start our own!! i thought that so i did check them still to make sure but the radio still works and the interior light works in the normal on setting just not on the door setting. is the ego an easy diy job ? or is it best to enlist some help ? is there a kit available, and could this be a cause of the seeming brick wall at the 2750-3000rpm range ?
I've had a good look at the gallery and have plenty of ideas from that thank you, now I've just got to think of some good excuses to tell the missus why all my savings have been otherwise allocated :-)
ill have a look for the chip tomorrow, if its not there wheres a good place to get one ? is there anything else you suggest i can do to squeeze a bit more power out of the engine ?
no, no lights on the dash just seems to hold back on the revs when it gets to about 2750-3000rpm almost like theres a blockage some where not letting the flow through.
thanks guys for your help.

these trucks dont rev much past 3 thou normally
when I removed and blanked my egr valve , I removed the cat at the same time and it made a noticeable difference to the acceleration. It was almost like I'd been driving with the handbrake on for many years. if you tap in 'L200 egr blank' into ebay they should come with a couple of nuts, a couple of bolts and 2 blanking plates (reuse the old gaskets). Usually around a tenner or thereabouts. you'll need a length of rubber hose too around half a meter is plenty. I think the internal diameter of around 15mm ish ( is that right @123hotchef ? ). not too difficult to do it, only tough bit is getting to the lower hose down below the manifold (I've got big hands).
I kept the cat and put it back on every time I took it for it's MOT and instantly noticed it holding back when driving it with the cat on. I will just say, these 2 ton trucks dont really like being driven over 3,000 rpm for any length of time and taking it up anywhere near 4,000 is gonna reduce the life of the engine dramatically

full how to for the egr is here ----------> How to :- Remove EGR Valve & Cooler ..now with pics!
the link may not work for you till you're upgraded and you username turns blue (details of what to do are in the first post of this welcome thread)
ebay's ya best bet for a chip if your is missing as a main dealer will have your pants down if you even ask about one.

my classic was, I would describe, as quicker than most even though I never fitted it with a chip........ I had a snorkel, K&N filter, egr blanked, catalytic converter removed and a side exit exhaust with no silencers
with pretty much any engine, the quicker you can get air/fuel in and the quicker you can get exhaust gasses out, the easier the engine will rev.

fantastic info krutly thanks, now you mention it, it is exactly like I've put the hand brake on so maybe the struggle to get to 3000rpm could be a clogged egr and CAT, i think i'll start there and get rid of those two things and see how it goes from there. ill be paying a visit to eBay start after this message to order up a kit !
i completely agree about never going much over 3000rpm and the disco and defender were the same, it was just the l200 was struggling to even get to 3000 sometimes (and defiantly didn't have the power to go past it !!!)
where did you get your K & N from ?
I've had a look in the passenger foot well and found the little black box with lots of wires going into it via a plug on the bottom, I'm guessing this is the chip ?
thanks @123hotchef, is it better to do it with copper pipe or is heater hose fine ?

@mutley2710 follow that wires from the little black box there should be a silver one too perhaps under the carpet.

better to do it with 1 long length of heater hoes less places for a potential leak but copper will do just fine I have 2 trucks one done each way both have been fine for years

@123hotchef, thanks, ill get onto that tomorrow, from what i can remember the wires went back in behind the glove box but ill investigate further, I'm guessing the little black box is not the chip ?
and EGR blanking kit ordered

@mutley2710 ..if you have the chip it will be in the footwell under the glovebox , behind the plastic panel , its a silver box with a pink dot on it, cables from it will go back to the ECU...
