Hi again posted a couple off weeks back about me l200 2006 automatic gearbox still no further forward wire loom has been tested gearbox been apart twice still nothing works perfectly 1-2-3 then a slight pull like you have hit the brakes goes into 4th, if you try slowing down or use kickdown you get a big thud into 3rd
I uploaded a quick video on YouTube if u could post anything you think it could be would really appreciate it cheers guys

What spec/brand is the ATF? And did they check voltages on the temp sensor?

When in 4th and doing a reasonable speed, does it lock the TC properly? This usually happens after you've stopped accelerating and started going a constand speed around 50mph, you'll notice the revs drop slighly (Just 50-100rpm) but road speed remains the same

It doesnt lock the TC in lower gears unless its overheating but in this case it will also lock in gear and not shift at all, if temp is ok it will unlock to make a shift. I think your "like youve hit the brakes" is the box trying to shift with TC locked since the box is directly connected to the engine when the clutches are engaging

The TC is the torque converter, its basically two propellers immersed in ATF, one connected to the engine, the other to the rest of the gearbox. When its unlocked the toque is transferred from the engine to the box through the movement of the fluid. When its locked a mechanical connection is made

That ATF is dexron6 but may not be up to Mitsubishi specs - it needs to have sp3 or spiii on the label. They are very sensitive to oil spec and levels

What you should do first is unplug the torque converter lockup actuator, this will prevent the signal being sent from the ECU to lock the TC. If the symptoms go away then my theory is correct.

I'll need to check the diagrams for the actuator switch location, is yours the 4 or 5 gear box?

Changing ATF is pretty easy, instructions

You pull the rad return hose under the bash plate, then idle the engine for 60s or until it stops spurting out. This gets the fluid out of the TC

Then refit the hose and drop the drain plug to get the rest out of the sump

Refit drain plug, and fill with funnel through dipstick

If its was really burnt you can repeat step 1

Once refilled to the cold mark, start the engine and select all gearbox positions once, then back to neutral, and check you are still on cold mark

Then drive until up to temp, and adjust fluid level so its between hot marks

Hi again little more info, when it’s driveing 1-2-3 then the is a little drag then it goes into gear but say you had to slow shortly after it drops down with a thud any ideas ?? Thanks for everything so far

I still think its the actuation of the torque converter lockup clutch, and its trying to shift without the lockup properly disengaged

Could be the fluid, or an issue with the actuator relay, solenoid or sensor. Personally i would probably put sp3 spec fluid in first and get levels exactly right

On the 4 speed i think theres an overdrive system too, but mines a 5 so im not familiar with that

Think that’s the problem if u turn od off drives great 1-2-3 od on get the drag then into 4th slow down and thud into 3rd or try useing kickdown it’s worse, but if I drive normal wait for the drag release accelerator pedal goes in smooth, i just put it in N then turn od off
Bk in to D it selects what gear and is fine if that makes any sense

It could be the underdrive clutch itself, or the control systems;

Damper clutch control (DCC) solenoid valve
Underdrive (UD) solenoid valve
Overdrive (OD) solenoid valve

But if you've taken it to a specialist and they've had it apart its unlikely to be a mechanical issue with the clutch, unless it's not behaving itself because of fluid spec

A mitsi dealer will be able to check the solenoids and control systems for you, but i would get the correct fluid in there first
