Truck trouble, anyone near Rochester/ Maidstone?

#1 by truckSTAR , Fri Mar 02, 2018 9:47 am

Hi,

I am having increasing trouble with my 2006 new shape manual truck. I have only owned it for 3 weeks and its gone from a slight annoyance to near impossible to drive.

Problem 1
I cant select gear 1 or 2 when the engine is cold and i think the cold weather has made it worse. I found out this morning i can select the gear easy if the engine is off so i have been starting it in gear but thats not ideal obviously!

Problem 2
Truck has started spluttering and juddering when i put my foot down. This has only just started happening i thought maybe a dodgy batch of diesel???

I was hoping someone might be able to put me in contact with somebody who can help. For starters i think the transmission oils need changing and looking at.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Change the fuel filter first, also check vac pipes - one has a habit of popping off, top RH side of head.
Is the EM light on?

Gears can be notchy until the oil warms up, even with new oil.

Thanks,
I cant take it back as it was a private sale sold as seen.
Yes its manual.
The gears aren't a bit notchy, they wont engage until the engine warms up a bit.

sorry to be cynical, but 'sold as seen' is ringing alarm bells!

That service kit should be fine, but compare with Milner’s as well, we have a discount there.
It does sound like you need a gearbox specialist to have a look.

might be worth a full service , be a few quid but would be worth it, even plug in a diagnostic to see any faults?

Yes that's what I thought, any ideas what I should be paying?

Does anybody have a reliable garage or mechanic near by?
