losing my memory..can you help

#1 by Nik Rite , Tue Jul 31, 2018 8:58 pm

Ive just fitted new car stereo. To save radio stations it needs a permanent feed 12v which it gets through the standard loom. The problem is when heating the plugs and starting the engine it pulls the battery voltage momentarily down to say 9v, enough for the stereo to lose all the saved stations. The battery is in good condition. The stereo needs this feed to work. The switched live from the ignition I think only allows the set to on/off. Anyone any cunning ways around this problem?? Ta Nik

You can't really avoid the voltage drop when starting, unless you have a second battery. Either the stereo is rubbish, the battery is not up to the job, or you have poor battery/earth contacts so that you're getting a higher voltage drop than you should.
