Suction control valve?....

#1 by Paxmanmerv , Fri Aug 31, 2018 5:16 pm

Evening all!
Bit of an odd one here, apollogise if its been done to death before...
Motor been going fine for ages, mentioned that to a geezah in the pub &....you guessed it....couple of days later it all goes horribly wrong!
So! Went to check the sheep the other day & headed home. Came out of the field & parked to close the gate & ping! EML on. No worries, shut gate & carry on...or so i thought... Gate shut, back in motor & homeward bound...at 20mph...WHAT!!! stopped, turned off, had a wander round, nothing hanging off or leaking so try again. EML light still on but drives ok.
Plugged in a diagnostic kit & got a load of U1101, u1102 etc & a P code. P0089. Fuel pressure regulator stuck? did a running data check & fuel pressure at between 8500 & 11200. Bit high i guess.
Question is, once i get a new sensor/valve, whats the quickest way to locate it?
Ta very much all!

So, bit of research says battery & tray out, dipstick & tube out & scv at bottom of HP pump.
Many thanks all!

You can do it with just the battery out.
Keep the new SCV clean, you may need a good quality code reader to do a re learn, to tell the ECU you have fitted a new part.
Do not buy a cheap copy SCV, get a Genuine Denso as fuel pressure is critical on Common Rail trucks.

SO! New suction control valve in & it runs. all good for a bit then EML back on. Hmmm...odd... Took some live data readings & fuel pressure at idle 8843psi. Target pressure (according to Mr Snapon,) about half that. Think i might chuck a fuel regulator on it & see how we get on.
Any thoughts?

Have you checked the small boost pipe from bulkhead to the engine for blockage or splits,
It normally blocks up in the alloy tube engine end.
Did you do a re learn on the ECU, so it knows you have fitted the new part?

OK, Checked the pipes as suggested, all good. Cleared codes & ran it on idle. no prob for a couple of mins then the engine tone changed & eml back on. Did OBD instead of scanner & got P0089 (same P0 as scan results but not scv stuck) fuel pressure regulator 1 mechanical fault. When running with no eml on, fuel pressures are a bit high but not excessive. When eml light is on, fuel pressures are almost double what you would expect. New fuel rail sensor makes no difference...Damned odd! Ideas anyone?.
