Surging Air Con

#1 by LPS2001 ( Guest ) , Tue Oct 23, 2018 4:19 pm

Hi
New to Forum just purchased an L200 animal 2007.

When I put the air con on while idling the engine surges/hunts. ie the revs go up and down not massively but enough to notice the change in the engine

anyone had similar issue or problem or is it just what happens when you do this

You can probably tell I have no mechanical expertise.....

it also has the 2wd lights flashing when in 2 wheel drive but I have had it checked out it is changing between 2 and 4 as it should (in 4wd the lights are on solid)

I have seen from my googling that this is a common problem in these models

Could the both problems be linked??

any help would be greatly appreciated

Apart from this I love the L200 is looks great and drives well.

mine does exactly the same
when sat at idle the revs increase slightly for a few seconds then drop back down whenever the air con is on. My mates barbarian does exactly the same so think that's just what they do. Turn the air con off and revs sit normally.
unlikely that the air con and revs have anything to do with the flashing light
mine only flashes when moving from 2wd to 4wd, when it's in either then it's solid not flashing.
I believe it vacuum controlled so you may have a leak in your vac system somewhere that's causing your light to flash.
very tricky to find any leak but try the obvious first like checking for split or loose pipes.

there is a pipe somewhere on top of engine that is common one to block @Nick has a photo of it somewhere and when he sees this post will hopefully show you what to check

Engine revs do go up and down while A/C is on, perfectly normal.
The pipe that blocks is for the Turbo boost not the 4x4 Kurt

Thanks for the replies guys glad it's not an issue with the revs/air con.
Regarding the flashing lights 2wd is it something that could develop into a bigger issue if left alone?

If so I would address it if not I can handle flashing light.

Cheers

as far as I understand, the 4x4 system works on the physical moving of the lever, the flashing light relies on the vacuum to activate it. So as long as the lever is in the right position then you should have the correct 2wd or 4wd as selected regardless of the light flashing or not.
many members on here have flashing 4x4 lights that have been on for years that they get used to. Mate of mine changed his truck and found he actually missed the flashing light from his old truck.
myself I would be trying to get the light to stop flashing but then that's just me.

no worries, if you are changing any pipes for new ones, do them one at a time as it's very easy to get vac lines round the wrong way which will then cause issues.
