Front diff removal

#1 by Heathen , Sat Oct 27, 2018 10:28 pm

Hey guys - finally got round to having a look at the grumbling front diff and clanking noise - reckon I probably found it:

Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

The N/S shaft bearing is totally shot and most of the oil has leaked out to be replaced by water, hence the gunk. The question I have @123hotchef (or anyone else) is should the inner shaft on the O/S just pull out? (like the N/S shaft?) or am I missing something?

Do ye mean the four bolts holding the diff to the side bracket? Do you take the brackets out with the diff or remove the diff from the brackets first? I've given it hell of a clout with a slide hammer - don't think it was planning on coming out

Is it possible to put a locker in a front diff of a K74? I was told if you want a locker in the front , you need to swap your diff with a V6 diff?

I'm very tempted as I've got it all apart anyhow - if @Antonio has first dibs though no probs - bit pricey thought eh?

My diffs are 4.875 as they were from a double cab. But I have a complete rear axle with diff lock and two front diffs, if you want a front locker you need to find an 8 inch diff from Pajero I believe

I had a look at their site yesterday @123hotchef - which model have you got as they don't have the 2.5TD listed - is it the same as for the 2.8L?
