Transfer box repair

#1 by Chrism ( Guest ) , Sat Nov 24, 2018 11:28 pm

Hi everyone. I am looking to purchase a 2004 l200 but the owner has made me aware that the transfer box is leaking oil. I have never done work on a transfer box and would like some advice on if it is a simple replacement or repair and is the transfer box placed in the gearbox housing or is it separate with a sealed shaft to the gearbox. Thank you in advance

sure, the T box is attached to the side of the gear box it supplies the power to the front prop, this seal where the prop can leak you really need to find where it is leaking from as long as it has not been run dry it should be fine.

123hotchef thank you for that I was thinking of buying it and just buying a transfer box and doing a straight replacement as long as it was a separate item to the gearbox thank you for your help with this.

it is a seperate item but splitting it from the gearbox is a ballache it is easier to swap the gearbox and transfer box as a whole unit, if it is just the seal then it is a easy fix
