Valve clearance....final answer anyone??

#1 by Nik Rite , Sun Feb 03, 2019 9:49 pm

Thanks so far for the help....Ive just got the rocker cover off k74 07 import ...roller tappets if that makes sense! The machine is stone cold....engine hasn't run in days. Warming the engine and then removing all the wiring and cover before the engine goes cold would be challenge to say the least! The valve clearance are stated as .25mm hot and i've seen banded around .15 cold.... I could just leave them as its running fine but with no service history and I'm looking at the valves its a pity not to check them. Any one know chapter and verse the cold settings ? Ta Nik

The truck had its rear wheels on axle stands and the front are on the ground. The rad stops me from getting to the crank pulley bolt to turn it over to set up the timing marks. Any suggestions how I could turn it over??? Nik

Leave it in gear and get someone to turn the back wheels whilst u check the timing marks. Just chock one rear wheel if open diff. Or lock if it’s a locker.

Thanks for that. Is fourth gear better? . I presume leave it in two wheel drive!

You need to take the bottom section of the radiator cowl off too to get a socket on - weirdly, it's easiest to get this out from the top of the engine bay.

I was going to give the rear wheel trick of turning the engine over a go. If the gear selector is put in 2 wheel drive ,is it the front or rear wheels that are driven. Since the front wheels are on the ground and effectively locked I can only rotate the rears at the moment...Ta

The mainstream is 2wd is rwd. Double up and make sure your chocks are secure before you spin it up.
