2005 3.0 V6 24v D/cab Propshaft issues!

Good Even Members..

In the six yrs that I have had my awesome truck I have had the propshaft done over and over and over... let’s just say quite a few times..and don’t get me started on the diff, on number 3 so far. only since recently havin found a top notch Mitsubishi specialist I found out what the issue is (I thought it was my heavy foot, just love the sound of the exhaust and the explosive energy of the 6G72 power plant). But in actual fact the issue lies in the propshaft being around 30-40mm shorter than it can be, now this is where I get a bit fuzzy, where the propshaft connects to the gearbox (Sleeve yoke I think) it doesn’t penetrate as much as the space available, there is a workshop a couple of ‘burbs over that cut the short prop (front one) in the middle and extend it by 30-40mm (either 38mm or 48mm, so much info going in I think I drop something) and that members solves the issue of the propshaft and diff issues I have been having. Apparently the propshaft flexes a bit more than normal when Trying to push the juice step through the floor.. by extending the propshaft by xxmm you drastically reduce the flex and the system stabilizes a bit more, resulting in less strain on the thingamajigs that Take the horses from the engine and put them right where they are needed... at the back underneath the tyres.

Now this made the most sense that I have heard wrt the consistent degradation of the propshaft and diff on my truck. Has anyone heard or encountered this or had this done to their truck? Would like to book my truck in soon for this to be done, anything to extend the life expectancy of my diff and prop.

That would obviously be a spacer between the flanged end of the prop and the flanged end of the diff? Why do this as well? Won’t that create a shear point on that spacer? I’ll find out about that. Hoping to get my truck in on Friday morning on my day off. Then it needs to have the ball joints looked at.. then transfer case, low range gives a permanent knocking when moving, and high range when you give gas or turn tight, diagnosis is that the chain keeps jumping off the gear. This truck has been more than reliable, but when something packs in, it usually ends up in 5 figures on the bill!!

Don't be afraid of using a spacer. I used the 6G72 for several years in offroad racing. Also used a spacer between the propshaft and the diff. Never broke...

Every great journey starts in first gear and by releasing the clutch....

you've done well to keep the gearbox intact with the miles you've got on it
I remember reading in the past that the gearboxes on the V6s were usually the weak point

Well when I bought the truck (6yrs ago), there was a bit of whine coming from the gearbox, had it replaced by the warranty and since then no issues, always felt it was a strong box(spit, touch wood, jump up and down) giving me no problems..
