Hydraulic oil mixed with old engine oil. Best penetrant and rust preventer around. Just stinks

Personally, I'm a fan of a dab of fresh brake fluid round the threads when fitting, saves accidental contamination. And as to Mallin's concoction, we've all cooked up something like that - i think there's a thread of chemistry somewhere in the tools/workshop sections with acetone/brake cleaner/oil/other chemicals that were thrown in the cauldron.
