Wrecked Steering Wheel

While I am waiting to be approved, I have a question about my wrecked steering wheel. It's on my new to me 2007 Warrior and with 202k miles on it. This leather clad steering wheel is a horrible mess. Looking on eBay, I don't see any leather clad wheels like mine. They all look untrimmed so possibly from L200 basic trim models. So I wondered if anyone tried cutting away the leather trim - does it then become the 4-Life trim steering wheel or are there other complications? What about steering wheel covers? Are they recommended? I suspect not!

I'll answer my own question. Yes it is easy enough to razor through the stitching to remove tattered steering wheel leather. You are left with a usable untrimmed steering wheel much like the 4-Life wheel except for four 3mm gaps at 2, 5, 7 and 10 o'clock positions. Not ideal but perfectly OK.

BTW, nearly 1 week after registering to join this group, I have still received no confirmation that I am allowed in!
