2014 Balance shaft

Hello,
6 weeks ago I took my 2014 Barbrian to the local garage to change the cam and balance shaft belts, I didn't really fancy the job. Four weeks later the top balance shaft pulley has sheared off, oil pouring through the front balance shaft bearing. I am not sure if the belt change and pulley snapping are related, the mechanic doesn't think they are and he is helping put things right but how do you get to the rear top bearing to replace it?

It is the 4D56 2.5 engine, do you go via sump or remove the head?

Any help would be appreciated.

might be easier to plug the hole and run it with no belts.

on the classics there is a inspection plate on the side of the block

Would removing the balance shaft belt give rougher ride, I have read different reviews on this?
