Tough/notchy gearchange...

#1 by GunnerBill , Fri Oct 11, 2019 9:24 pm

Clearly a manual L200 is going to be no comparison to a Range Rover's gearchange but I'm thinking my gearchange is a bit too hard & notchy even for a pick-up.

Basically I struggle to find 1st/2nd and when I do it's a tough push to get it in. No grinding or anything and the gearbox is fine when in gear so I'm thinking more the linkage. It does get a little better when warmed up.

I'm also having to hunt for 4th in changing down when I'd have thought it'd naturally want to go into that gear coming down the box...

The garage seem to think this is totally normal but I test drove 2 trucks and the other was much smoother. they mention changing out the gearbox oil for a low friction variety.

Some advice on this would be appreciated.

Dig the book out and find the service schedule. You may find that it's just 6 year old oil and needs replenishment.

Good morning, my 2012 Barbarian is exactly the same. So I'll try the oil first. Thank you
