Engine management light

#1 by Landranger1 , Sat Apr 13, 2013 9:38 am

If anyone can help I would be grateful.
Cahnged diesel filter today as would not pull past 3000 rpm, now pulls like express train but EML now on, Could it be a faulty water sensor. Using BOSCH filter, nothing else has changed.

Thanks in advance

Could well be, mate. Or could be anything

Is it a classic or a new shape? If it's a newshape then a £20 OBD reader will give you a decent clue where the issue is; see here ODB-II Reader

Where are you based? Someone could lend you an OBD, possibly.

If it's a classic, then it's a lot harder to pinpoint.

Aha! Checked your welcome post and you have a classic, and live in Northern France!
You can safely ignore my suggestions, then

Someone more helpful will be along in a sec.

Very little to cause EML then defective water sensor as suggested, but unplugging will prove that as it only shorts out when in water I believe..

Sorry guys new at this game,

it is a 2002 Animal, the light was not on when I took off the filter, changed it as normal and then low and behold the little bugger was on and is still on.

110000 on the clock and goes like express train, so whatever it is has no effect on its performance.

French is not good enough as yet to go to mitsubishi dealer in France without getting ripped off, so thought I would pick your mighty brains. That is why I was lead to believe that when I removed it I may have either damaged a wire or it was at the point of expiring anyway.

cheers

Reset by switching off, disconnect battery for at least 30 secs the restart and allow to idle for 2 mins.. all will be reset.

So, like a PC, then? "Have you tried turning it off and on?"
